On May 29, 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay were the first two people to reach the summit of Mount Everest. Although Hillary was part of Colonel John Hunt’s expedition, when the team had drawn within 300 feet of the summit, Hunt directed Hillary and Tenzing Norgay to scale the final 300 feet to the summit. Hillary describes reaching the summit: “A few more whacks of the ice axe in the firm snow, and we stood on top.”
Although Hillary is credited as reaching the summit first, neither one would have made it without the assistance of the other. As a matter of fact, without Tenzing, Hillary would not have been there to plant his feet on the summit. Hillary had fallen into a crevasse, and as he was quickly heading for a meeting with the bottom, Tenzing grabbed Hillary’s safety rope, slammed his ice axe into the ice, and tied Hillary’s rope to it.
Colonel Hunt, after the incessant pestering by journalists to declare who was the first of the two to stand on the summit, stated, “They reached it together, as a team.” Just as Hillary stated, “A few more whacks of the ice axe in the firm snow, and we stood on top,” he did not credit himself with being the first, but rather declared that the team stood on top.
moreWhen the world was young, Dean found Sol. These two dream-weavers punctured their fingertips. From the conjoining of the spilt lifeblood emerged Austinbikes/Revenant. If (like Revenant Records) Austinbikes could, one day, win the bicycling world's equivalent of a Grammy, well that'd be just real nice. In the meantime this team continues to magnetically attract a certain type of bike racer.....how you say......they go to 11!
moreFounded in 2010-2011, this fledgeling team has quickly grown into THE team to look out for this coming Winter. Team captain, Rolando Roman, has parlayed his enthusiasm for the sport into a team that takes no Prisoners. Emerging with the Bronze Medal overall for CX teams in Texas for the 2011 season, these guys and gals are showing us all that bike suffering does not stop for festivus.

moreThis unassuming locally owned micro-chain of espresso bars is quite simply the best on the planet. We are not saying this because they sponsor the team. Truth be told: we stalked the general manager tirelessly until he exhaustedly agreed to sign on as both a sponsor and rider of Austinbikes/Revenant.
But more to the point, a bit more about the Caffe itself:
Medici has a striking ability to extract THE boldest, richest flavors from the group head of a highly tuned and very Italian espresso machine. This is due to the skill of each and every Coffee-God/barista on call. Whether you order an uncommonly strong french press "drip"coffee, a straight shot of espresso, or a perfectly appointed Caffe Mocha you will henceforth abandon any old sea-fairing mermaid ladies and romantically embrace Cosimo the Elder ....They use only Cuvee espresso blended exclusively for their special purpose. And this special purpose is pure enjoyment.
