Does your bike ”fit”? What does that even mean?

The only thing we take more seriously than selecting the bikes and gear we sell is bike fit. It is widely known that a rider's position on the bike is the single most important factor in achieving optimal power and comfort. And because the sale of a bicycle is not the final step in our relationship with our clients, Austinbikes includes one of our Pro Fit sessions with every bike that purchased from us at no extra charge.

Our Pro Fit addresses YOUR marriage to your bicycle from head to toe and neck to hands. There are many issues distinct to you that affect your position on the bike, and we are able to diagnose and make allowances and/or adjustments for each one.

  • anatomical anomalies and asymmetry (including leg or arm length inequalities)
  • pain, chaffing, soreness and discomfort
  • muscle inflexibility
  • past or current injuries
  • level of experience

We have studied & been taught by the best bike fit authorities in the cycling world, and feel we offer the most comprehensive bike fit available anywhere. And simply put, when you feel powerful yet comfortable on your bicycle, you will ride it more often and get more enjoyment out of it. We delight in making people fast and comfortable and it’s just good business.

Austinbikes Pro Fit Session

In our Pro Fit sessions, we address:

  • Shoes & Cleats: fit, foot support, custom footbeds, cleat angle, shims or wedges
  • Pedals & Crankset: crankarm length, stance width, stack height
  • Saddle & Seatpost: angle, height, fore/aft setback, shape, “compatibility”
  • Handlebars: width, reach, drop, shape, position of controls and how brake/shift levers are anchored to bars
  • Ankle, Knee & Hip Alignment
  • Knee Over Pedal Spindle
  • Ankling & Heel Drive
  • Posture and Back Position
  • Torso, Arm & Neck Angles
  • Minimum Knee Angle and crank arm length relationship to femoral length

Your Pro Fit often results in our recommending a new stem (due to length or angle), seat post (due to length or setback) or handlebars and bar tape (due to width, reach or drop). Although less common, we may also recommend new shoes, pedals, crank arm length or saddle . Each of these parts has an individual impact on your bicycle’s fit and performance. In each case, we are able to provide a total solution to dial you into your perfect theoretical fit. Last but certainly not least, we can describe the benefits to you and your particular anatomy of adding custom Cyclesoles to the foot/pedal interface.
